South Lake Union

South Lake Union

Seattle, Washington

South Lake Union is an urban redevelopment project in downtown Seattle consisting of office, retail, restaurants, hotels residential and cultural venues. Miller Hull architects designed a Leeds certified modular building to house a Discovery Center to provide an experience to communicate the vision of South Lake Union to the public. The visitor experience starts with an historical time line of downtown Seattle including “time capsules” holding artifacts donated by Paul Allen and the Bill Gates Foundation. A 26′ diameter theater takes visitors into the future of SLU, and opens to a 16′ long scale model of downtown Seattle. A model home vignette for a high rise condo utilizes a projection screen in place of the floor to ceiling windows to display a video of the city views from day to night. The SLU Discovery Center won numerous awards for its innovative and sustainable design.
